The Film Thor ( 2011 ) Directed By Kenneth Branagh

Sierra Burow 4/16/15 SCAN 3202 The film Thor (2011) directed by Kenneth Branagh is a piece of contemporary expressive culture that draws from many various components of Norse mythology. Of the mythological characters being used, the most prominent in the film are Thor, Odin, Frigg, Sif, and Heimdall. The contemporary depictions of these characters parallel and diverge their depictions in original old Norse mythology sources in numerous ways. These original sources include but are not limited to The Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson and The Poetic Edda translated by Carolyne Larrington, both being revered and treasured by scholars and Norse fans alike. The contemporary portrayals of Norse mythological characters in the film Thor took the form they did for a variety of reasons, the foremost being Judeo-Christian influence, followed by the objective to create a film that is contemporary and relatable to a wide demographic. In Marvel’s 2011 film, Thor could be described as a cross between an alien, super hero, and a God. However according to Norse myth, he is a God that presides over the air, including wind, storms, rain, and therefore crop growth and fertility. He is the most valiant of the Gods despite his inevitable doom in Ragnarok; he is committed to protecting humanity, hyper-masculine, and wields a powerful hammer that boomerang’s back to him when he throws it and helps him in his duty to protect humanity against evil (Lindow 486 (Thor’s Hammar)). Communication in Marriages Free Essays

Communication in Marriages The article by Schoenberg â€Å"Can we talk? Researcher talks about the role of communication in happy marriages† have some good points. Even though people are too busy to communicate and think things will be fine, communication is important in a marriage because not communicating in your marriage could lead to a divorce and could lead towards other marital problems. I can relate to this article on self-disclosure in my relationships. We will write a custom essay sample on Communication in Marriages or any similar topic only for you Order Now The social penetration theory â€Å"suggests that self-disclosure deepens, in stages, as relationships develop† (Sole, 2011, Chapter7 Summary, Key Terms). I have to agree with this theory because as you get to know someone more you are able to disclose more about yourself, but you must feel close to that person and have trust before you can disclose certain information about yourself. In my past relationships due to trust issues, I have had a hard time disclosing personal information or letting people get close in my intimate relationships. I believe it has caused problems my marriage now is not my first and I know part of the reason my past marriages did not work was because of poor/lack of communication. I would have to agree that self-disclosure is important and directly related to satisfaction in relationships because of my own experience. Experiencing something, first hand is the best way of knowing. In order for any relationship to progress and develop you, need to open up and communicate, â€Å"Research consistently has shown a link between happy marriages and â€Å"self-disclosure,† or sharing your private feelings, fears, doubts and perceptions with your partner† (Schoenberg, 2011). If you are self-disclosing and talking about more than just your day with your partner how can you not have a happy marriage you two are going to have some intimate connection. Keeping in mind that men and woman are different in how they communicate or even how they express their feelings. I do know there are similarities between men and women no matter what gender you are, you are going to want to feel loved and cared for. It is important to not just communicate but watch your partner and see how the need affirmation. I usually try not to generalize things; I have been trying to teach myself with things it does not have to be all or nothing. With this research study, I would have to say I feel I fit into their category as a woman I do better with verbal affirmation. Although people are too busy to communicate and think things will be fine, communication is important in a marriage for two main reasons. First, not communicating in your marriage could lead to marital problems. However, most importantly, not communicating in your marriage could lead to a divorce. Reference Schoenberg, N. Biographical Sketch Kasturba Gandhi Essay Example For Students

Biographical Sketch: Kasturba Gandhi Essay Biographical Sketch: Kasturba Gandhi Kasturba Gandhi was a renowned figure for all of India and was always there to help Mohandas Gandhi out. Kasturba was born on April 11, 1869 to Gokuladas Makharji, a wealthy business man. She married Mohandas Gandhi in 1882 when she was only 13 years old. At that time she could not read or write because she hadn’t had the proper schooling. Mohandas taught to both read and write and that would come in handy later when she was delivering speeches that led India to its independence. This was also a dangerous move considering the roles and places of India and the caste system. Kasturba and Mohandas had their first child right before Mohandas had to leave for a business trip so Kasturba stayed in India to tend to the child. After the first one they had three more together until in 1906 Mohandas decided to observe brahamacharya and from there on they never had sexual relations. She was very religious minded and broke many barriers in the caste system and also supported her husband in all of his political views. She also had her own view and spoke out against working conditions in South Africa for Indians which is just one example of her many times speaking out. She supported hygiene, discipline, reading, and writing to women and children. Kasturba suffered from chronic Bronchitis and the stress on top of that she had tremendous amount of stress during the Quit India Movements arrest also aggravated her illness. She contracted pneumonia but her husband disagreed with the use of penicillin. She died of a major heart attack on February 22, 1944. Gandhi died in January 30, 1948 after Kasturba and he were married for 62 years

I was in a workshop and we needed to create a short movie, and for that movie we also needed a website. I was the one responsible for doing the website. We went to the WordPress.com and we had the site up in one day. After that, I kind of re alized that I cant probably hack the themes that much in WordPress.com and I started using WordPress.org. From that point on, I began doing more and more of my own stuff as well. This is the short story on how I stumbled upon WordPress environment. You have your own theme shop, how do you manage to do all the work?Sami Keijonen:Yeah, I have my own theme shop. I started out by building public themes, I didnt have any client work at that point, so I was building themes for the public at first. That was also a way to learn more about WordPress, in general. Now, I do mostly client work. At the moment Im kind of shifting because recently I started a new job in a company called 10up, but if we talk about what happened previously, what Ive done was to teach.I am actually a teacher, this is my occupation. Ive been teaching for about 18 years and, as a side project, I was doing web development. Ive been freelancing for other companies in Finland that have hired me to have all their work check ed. So thats most of the WordPress-related work that Ive done for four years now. But newly things changed because now Im working as a front-end engineer at 10up. Which changed a little bit what Im working and how.No more teaching?Sami Keijonen:Not so much, I am still going to teach a couple of courses next semester. I cant totally quit this, but right now I dont have so much time for that anymore. How did you get started with accessibility and how do you test it?Sami Keijonen:Accessibility is my favorite topic in the sense that Ive been on the Accessibility Team on WordPress.org for about four years and thats an area that Ive been really interested in. It started out for me when I had a student with a really low vision. She wasnt actually blind, but she really struggled to use a website, a book, and stuff like that. She had a so-called magnifier thing that helped her see the text, and that was the turning point for me when I realized that there are different ways of using the web an d that my role as a developer was to make things easier for pretty much everybody. This is how I started learning more about accessibility. As a front-end developer, it came as a natural thing of building things anyway, so its kind of a mindset at the same time. People might ask, for example, if you need an extra budget for accessibility. But usually my answer is no, its built-in already, thats how I do the things anyway. Its not an extra cost to clients. Of course, if they want really, really custom stuff, there might be an actual cost for them too, but normally that should be a basic thing that you do anyway. Are you using any tools in the testing process?Sami Keijonen:Yeah, I had a workshop yesterday (that is, the  first day of WCEU 2018) with  Rian Rietveld, and there we used the tools for that. The workshop itself was about how to test accessibility. We showed the participants the resources that we use when we do the testing. The main question that the workshop was trying to answer was Is there a way to help as a developer, designer, content creator when creating a site? The bad news is that there is no such tool that can cover all the accessibility issues out there. Theres a 30-40% of accessibility issues that cant be fixed with tools and require manual user testing. So its kind of a mix of both. There are tools that can help you, but you have to know yourself what you want to do and how to use them properly.Heres the list of the tools that we tested during the workshop:  Tools for the WCEU Workshop accessibility testingWhat would you do if you couldnt WordPress?Sami Keijonen:I would like to be a rockstar! Or a sports star, whatever. But I cant play anything, so my options are pretty narrow. Before we finish up, it might be of interest for you to know that, soon after our talk, Sami has made all the themes and plugins that he had built for his shop available for free  so that  he can focus on new career opportunities. Like being a rockstar on the WordPress accessibility stage. If you have any questions for Sami, please leave them in the comments section. Free Essays on The Last Friend I Would Have Ever Expected

I was not a big fan of dogs after a chow bit me when I was six years old. Ever since then I have somewhat been afraid of all dogs until I met Rose. Rose is an English bulldog. Bulldogs do not look like they would be the nicest dogs out there and when I walked into my girlfriend’s house for the first time I was petrified of this bulldog. I felt as scared a mouse with no legs that is trying to get away from a cat. When Rose took off sprinting as if she were a lion after a gazelle, thought that I was going to be eaten alive. Much to my surprise instead of eating me alive she jumped onto me knocking me down and began to lick my face profusely, it felt like I was being drowned in a pool of dog slobber. When Rose finally decided to let me get up my girlfriend, her dad and her step mom were all horse laughing at me. All I could hear was, â€Å"Did you see his face, that is the most scared I have ever seen anyone, that is so funny.† Needless to say Rose and I set it of f to a pretty close relationship. Over the past few months I have gotten to know Rose quite well. Rose is an extremely loving dog, a very active dog, and a very paranoid dog. Rose showed me that dogs can be loving animals and she helped me get over my fear of dogs. My girlfriend told me that Rose is usually not fond of anyone at first and it usually takes her a long time to get used to them. It surprised everyone that Rose and I had such a close bond the first time I met her. Every time I walk in to the front door, somehow Rose knows it is me and like our first meeting she charges at me but over time I have found ways to trick her. Issues That Lead to the Recession Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 1

Issues That Lead to the Recession - Term Paper Example â€Å"A significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale-retail trade. The technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a countrys gross domestic product (GDP); although the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) does not necessarily need to see this occur to call a recession.†(Recession†¦.) Recession hurts the government in some of the vital areas that are the supporting pillars of the economy and its impact is unfavorable news for the government budget. Government borrowings rise. Tax revenues dip low due to lower income tax and corporate tax revenues. With the steep rise in the unemployment levels, the government is obliged to extend unemployment benefits to a wider section of the society. Higher borrowing leads to higher taxes and additional interest payments in the future. As shares turn unattractive, the prices begin to dip. Lower profitability and lower dividends create a depressive mood for the investors and they look out for alternative sources of investment. The fall in share prices continues in anticipation of recessionary trends prolonging. But this is only the initial phase. When recession is at its hardest phase, the developments take a strange turn. In anticipation of economic recovery, share prices begin to recover, as the prudent investor calculates that it is the favorable time to invest from the point of view of long term gains. Falling prices of shares may be due to various other factors as well, not alone recession. The normal reaction to recession is that it should result in a lower inflation rate. The highlight of recession is it reduces demand and wage inflation. The issue to be examined is what economic factors impact the recession hard. The current recession is due to rise in oil prices. The expert opinion about this inflation is, it is bound to
